This class will explore jazz history from a defining historical year, 1959. Each week, we will explore the many different branches that jazz took after this pinnacle year. We will explore the music of Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, the Free Jazz Movement, Jazz Fusion, and many more. Throughout the course, we will build active listening skills, develop a shared vocabulary for discussing music, and engage in open dialogue about jazz’s ongoing role in American and global culture.
