Africa in the Global History of Science

A Fall 2024 Emeritus Society Food for Thought Lunch

About this experience

A special lunchtime event that includes an engaging lecture and boxed lunch.

From the advent of agriculture and ironmaking to innovations in medicine, mathematics, and engineering, Africa has been essential in the development of science, globally.  Since antiquity, Africans ranging from the figure attributed as the physician 'Peseshet' to the geographer and mathematician Eratosthenes have been a driving creative force in the systematic process of observing, asking questions, forming hypotheses, testing, and predicting - the scientific method.
