About this experience

Mondays, 2:00 – 3:30 pm
February 23 – March 19

When most people think of Austria, they picture alpine landscapes and Julie Andrews twirling through the hills. But there’s so much more to this vibrant country. Taught by a native Austrian, this course offers an engaging, non-academic exploration of Austria’s rich history, diverse culture, political landscape, geography, and language. While The Sound of Music will make a few cameo appearances, the real spotlight is on the Austria that locals know and love—past and present.

  1. Austria Unveiled- Beyond the Postcard
  2. Culture, Customs, and Kaffeehaus Conversations
  3. Politics, People, and The Sound of Music Legacy

This course is held in tandem with the 2025-26 Broadway season at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts and provides a deeper understanding and context for "The Sound of Music" before an optional viewing of the musical.  "The Sound of Music" musical tickets are sold separately on the first day of class.  Limited tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
