Giuseppe’s novel, The Leopard, is considered one of the masterpieces of historical fiction. The N.Y. Times states, “The novel is a perfect evocation of a lost world.” Published after Lampedusa’s death, the novel became one of the best-selling novels of the 20th century.  Lampedusa’s novel captures the rise and fall of the aristocratic House of Salina. The novel opens in 1860 with the landing of Garibaldi’s forces in Sicily and recounts the story of world-weary Don Fabrizio, Prince of Salina, scion of an aristocratic family that faces the loss of its power after 400 years.
